declining character traits of courtesy and tolerance in early
childhood in the digital era, influenced by technological
developments, gadget use, and changing patterns of social
interaction within the family and community. Generation Z
parents, as a generation growing up in a digital environment,
have more open, flexible, and adaptive parenting
characteristics, but also face challenges in instilling character
values in their children. Therefore, this study aims to examine
the strategies of Generation Z parents in instilling character
traits of courtesy and tolerance in early childhood, the
parenting styles they employ, and the factors that support and
hinder this character development process.
This research uses a qualitative approach with a case
study method. The research subjects consisted of five
Generation Z parents and five young children in Palupi
Village, Palu City, Central Sulawesi. Data collection
techniques included observation, in-depth interviews, and
documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data
reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing.
The results show that Generation Z parents' strategies
for instilling politeness and tolerance in young children
involve three main strategies: positive communication, role
modeling, and habituation. Positive communication involves
speaking gently, explaining rules, and demonstrating empathy
toward children. Modeling is demonstrated through examples
of polite and tolerant behavior in daily life. Habituation is

fostered through daily routines such as greeting, speaking
politely, sharing, and respecting others. The dominant
parenting styles are authoritative and authoritarian. Supporting
factors in character development include consistent rules,
parental role modeling, and parental involvement in children's
activities. Inhibiting factors include the influence of gadgets,
limited parental time, and the child's social environment. Thus,
the success of instilling good manners and tolerance in early
childhood is greatly influenced by appropriate parenting
strategies, consistent parenting styles, and positive
environmental support.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">370. 114 Pendidikan Moral, Pendidikan Karakter</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-05-18</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS ILMU TARBIYAH DAN KEGURUAN</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
