on Arabic letters, in which each letter possesses a specific numerical value that is&#13;
subsequently processed to assess the compatibility of prospective couples or to&#13;
determine the auspiciousness of a marriage. This phenomenon is found in&#13;
Kertaharja Village, Kramat District, Tegal Regency, where the majority of the&#13;
community still considers the results of hisab abjadiyyah calculations as the primary&#13;
basis for granting approval or rejecting a marriage. In this context, hisab abjadiyyah&#13;
does not function as a determinant of the legal validity of marriage; rather, it serves&#13;
as a tool for validating marriage within the social order. Based on this phenomenon,&#13;
it becomes highly relevant to examine the community’s beliefs regarding the&#13;
practice of hisab abjadiyyah as a marriage validation tool, as well as to further&#13;
analyze the social construction that has developed within society toward this&#13;
practice.&#13;
This study employs a field research method with a descriptive-analytical&#13;
approach. The research adopts a sociological perspective, while the data collection&#13;
techniques consist of observation, interviews, and documentation relevant to the&#13;
study. The data analysis process includes data reduction, data presentation, and&#13;
conclusion drawing. The analysis is conducted using Max Weber’s theory of social&#13;
action as well as the social construction theory of Peter L. Berger and Thomas&#13;
Luckmann.&#13;
The findings of this study indicate that the beliefs of the people of Kertaharja&#13;
Village toward the practice of hisab abjadiyyah as a marriage validation tool are&#13;
grounded in the level of individual religiosity, accompanied by psychological and&#13;
social considerations that are strategic in nature to achieve a sakinah, mawaddah,&#13;
warahmah household. From Max Weber’s perspective, this tradition can be&#13;
categorized as value-rational action, affective action, and traditional action. The&#13;
community’s acceptance of hisab abjadiyyah as a marriage validation tool&#13;
represents a form of new social construction that emerged from the intersection of&#13;
changes in community religiosity, the authority of religious leaders, and the social&#13;
needs of society in seeking legitimacy for marriage. When analyzed using social&#13;
construction theory, the practice of hisab abjadiyyah constitutes a social&#13;
construction that has become deeply embedded within society through the&#13;
