It begins with the trend “The Power of Surah Maryam” on the TikTok platform, which frames verses 30–35 of Surah Maryam as a source of energy to overcome impossibilities and as a guide for specific spiritual practices. In the tradition of exegesis, Surah Maryam verses 30–35 are generally understood within the context of the story and prophethood of Jesus (peace be upon him), while also emphasizing affirms the oneness and power of Allah. Meanwhile, on the TikTok platform, these verses have evolved into the narrative of “The Power of Surah Maryam.” Consequently, this phenomenon raises the question of how reception has evolved and the dynamics of the discourse underlying the formation of reception on the TikTok.
This study aims to analyze the forms of reception of Surah Maryam verses 30–35 on the TikTok platform, as well as the discursive dynamics underlying the formation of such reception. This is a qualitative study conducted through digital observation. Data was obtained through content analysis of the five accounts that uploaded content titled "The Power of Surah Maryam," namely @cremeladreme_, @quote_acak, @bundajombang, @windagusti, and @irfanrizki, as well as audience responses to the narratives mentioned in the comments section. The selection of these five accounts was based on their high audience engagement levels, as well as the similarity of their niches and content characteristics regarding popular da’wah, which align with the research topic.
The research findings reveal an expansion of the verse’s functions, as evidenced by reception trends on the TikTok platform that emphasize the verse’s role as a source of motivation and a spiritual practice for fulfilling wishes. The formation of this reception is influenced by at least three factors: the characteristics of the TikTok platform, active audience participation, and users’ emotional and spiritual needs. Consequently, this reception has two implications: it brings the text of the Qur’an closer to the general public, but at the same time presents new challenges in maintaining the depth of understanding and religious authority.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">297.1226 Tafsir Al-Qur'an, Ilmu Tafsir</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-06-02</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS USHULUDDIN DAN PEMIKIRAN ISLAM</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
