Furthermore, challenges arise from the lack of definitive criteria for determining the coherence of verses, given that munāsabah is a discipline rooted in ijtihādī and ẓannī methodologies. The debate over its application continues to unfold. Some scholars fear that its inherently ijtihādī and ẓannī nature may lead to deviations in linking Qur’anic verses. This mirrors the concerns scholars had when the ra’y approach began to gain prominence in exegesis. Furthermore, some scholars hold the view that each Qur’anic verse was revealed within a specific context; therefore, seeking connections between one verse and another is unnecessary, given that these verses stand on their own in accordance with the asbāb al-Nuzūl (reasons for revelation) pertaining to the relevant verse. Conversely, some scholars assess that the interconnection and coherence of verses in the Qur’an constitute an important approach to study, given that the grandeur of the Qur’anic literature contains a wealth of wisdom and secrets. The verses, arranged as if forming a single unity, possess profound meanings that may be interconnected. The author addresses the theme of munāsabah from Suyūṭī’s perspective in his two works, Itqān fī ‘Ulūm al-Qur’ān and Marāṣid al-Maṭāli‘ fī Tanāsub al-Maqāṭi‘ wa al-Maṭāli‘. In addition, this study focuses on examining how the concept of munāsabah is described by Suyūṭī while also identifying the similarities and differences between the two works. This is done to observe the development and shifts in Suyūṭī’s thinking within the discipline of munāsabah. The research method employed is based on library research (literature review) using descriptive analysis and a qualitative approach. The data collection technique utilized is content analysis regarding the development of the concept of munāsabah from primary and secondary sources. The results of the review and research indicate that munāsabah has undergone a long evolution, ranging from the implicit tendencies in the practice of munāsabah interpretation to the stage of becoming a structured and systematic academic discipline. Although Suyūṭī possessed a strong scholarly background in the authority of riwāyah, he still allocated significant attention to academic disciplines based on ijtihād, specifically munāsabah. This study demonstrates that in al-Itqān, munāsabah is presented conceptually and is the result of Suyūṭī’s compilation of the views of earlier scholars. In contrast to the munāsabah described in Marāṣid al-Maṭāli‘, in this work Suyūṭī presents munāsabah as being more applied and practical.
