Student mental health has become an increasingly critical issue amid the growing use of\r\ndigital media, particularly Doomscrolling behavior, which potentially deteriorates psychological wellbeing.\r\nThis study aimed to examine the role of guilt feeling as a mediator in the relationship between\r\nDoomscrolling and mental health among university students. This study employed a quantitative\r\napproach with a mediation design. The subjects were active university students in the Special Region\r\nof Yogyakarta, recruited through online convenience sampling with a minimum sample of 384\r\nrespondents. Data were collected using three instruments: the Mental Health Inventory-38 (MHI-38) to\r\nmeasure mental health, the Guilt Feeling Scale developed based on Moral Emotion Theory, and the\r\nDoomscrolling Scale. Data analysis was conducted using medmod-based mediation testing. The results\r\nindicated that Doomscrolling had a significant direct effect on mental health (p = .013). However, guilt\r\nfeeling did not significantly affect mental health (p = .580), indicating that guilt feeling did not function\r\nas a mediator in this relationship. The effect of Doomscrolling on mental health occurred directly\r\nwithout passing through the guilt feeling mechanism (direct-only model). These findings confirm that\r\nDoomscrolling is a relevant risk factor for students' mental health. Practically, these results may serve\r\nas a basis for higher education institutions to develop digital literacy programs that help students manage\r\nthe consumption of negative information in a healthier manner.\r\nKeywords: Doomscrolling, guilt feeling, mediation, mental health, university students"^^ .
