N2  - This study examines the role of librarians in collection development at the Sekolah Tinggi Maritim Yogyakarta (STIMARYO) Library. An adequate library collection is essential to support learning and research in higher education, particularly in maritime studies, which require specialized references. However, the STIMARYO Library faces several challenges in collection development, including budget constraints and limited access to updated resources. This study aims to analyze how librarians perform their roles in selecting, acquiring, evaluating, and maintaining library collections. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach, using in-depth interviews, observations, and document studies as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that librarians at STIMARYO act as educators, managers, administrators, and supervisors in managing library collections. Strategies implemented include collaboration with faculty in collection selection, utilizing open-access resources for digital literature, and optimizing budgets for acquiring relevant materials. The novelty of this research lies in alternative strategies for maritime library collection development despite financial limitations. However, this study has limitations in the scope of respondents and has not explored the role of technology in digital collection development. Future research can further investigate the integration of information technology in maritime library collection management.
