This condition has psychological impacts on children, such as stress, anxiety and difficulty managing emotions which effect academic achievement and social behavior. However, some students from broken homes are able to demonstrate adaptive emotional regulation skills this maintaining good behavior and achieving well in school. The research problem is how emotional regulation strategies are used by students from broken homes at State Junior High School 1 Salaman Magelang. The purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of emotional regulation strategies in student from broken home. This research is a qualitative study with a case study approach. The data collection techniques include semi-structured interviews and documentation. The research subject were selected based on specific criteria, consisting of three students class seventh and eight grade students from broken home. The results of the study showed that all three students had emotion regulation strategies. These emotion regulation strategies helped the studentd manage their emotions in dealing with family problems.
