description: The situation after Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945 was no easier for the freedom fighters than before. Three military forces from the Allied Forces Netherlands East Indies, NICA (Netherland Indies Civil Administration), and Japan tried to reclaim Indonesia. The situation was getting more difficult because after the dissolution of the homeland military force formed by Japan after its defeat from the allies, officially Indonesia did not yet have military strength. This study employes the historical method with a social science approach to prove the strengthening of kiai-santri nationalism in the Ambarawa Sabil War. In order to reconstruct the social aspects of the historical object, the researcher uses the theory of collective behavior from Neil J. Smelser. The basic assumption is that the idea of jihad and the nationalism of the kiai-santri has been able to encourage resistance from the pesantren and the wider community in the jihad war to defend Indonesia's independence. Some of the results of this research are, first, the idea of jihad and nationalism of the kiai-santri has been able to encourage the resistance of the kiaisantri and the wider community in the war to defend Indonesia's independence in the Ambarawa Sabil War. Second, with the belief in jihad and patriotic nationalism, the kiai-santri succeeded in mobilizing the forces of the people's resistance in the Ambarawa Sabil War. Third, the victory in the Ambarawa Sabil War occupies a very important position in increasing the morale of the Indonesian freedom fighters in various regions.
