The method used in this research is qualitative with liberal feminist theory by Rosemarie Tong which focuses on women's struggle to be able to access and get their rights in the public space. As a result, the struggles of Annisa and Rabeya show different forms of struggle that are influenced by their socio-culture. Annisa's character faces multiple resistances to family pressure, social norms and educational institutions in the conservative Islamic boarding school environment. In contrast, Rabeya, who is in a liberal environment, has a more open space to voice her views on religion and feminism. Despite these differences, both figures assert women's rights in reinterpreting misogynistic interpretations of the Quran and Hadith through the lens of gender justice and champion liberal feminist principles such as autonomy, equal access to public space and individual freedom. In addition, this study found that it is important to give women the authority to reinterpret Islamic texts to challenge patriarchal domination in religious discourse, provided that such interpretations are done carefully and responsibly so that they remain in line with Islamic values. date: 2025-06-03 date_type: published pages: 93 institution: UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA department: FAKULTAS ADAB DAN ILMU BUDAYA thesis_type: skripsi thesis_name: other citation: Safa Aulia, NIM.: 21101050039 (2025) WOMEN’S VOICES UNVEILED: FEMALE CHARACTERS CHALLENGING MISOGYNISTIC RELIGIOUS VIEWS IN PEREMPUAN BERKALUNG SORBAN (2009) AND THE TAQWACORES (2010).
