The novel tells the story of José, a young man trapped in complex life struggles, trying to fulfill his psychological needs. However, despite his strong motivation and desire to achieve each level of need, he faces numerous obstacles that hinder the fulfillment of these needs. José’s inability to meet these hierarchy needs, results in various psychological symptoms that affect his life and well-being. The aim of this study is to analyze the psychological symptoms experienced by the main character, José, as a result of the unfulfilled hierarchy of needs, as well as the causes behind these unmet needs in Sāq al-Bāmbū by Sa'ūd As-San'ūsī. This research uses a library research approach and qualitative descriptive analysis method, with Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory as the primary theoretical framework. The findings of this study reveal that José experiences various psychological symptoms such as fear, loneliness, alienation, low self-esteem, confusion, frustration, stagnation, and emotional instability. These symptoms arise from the unfulfilled hierarchy of needs. The causes of these unmet needs are identified as stemming from two main factors: the family’s lack of sufficient emotional support and the social environment that isolates José, hindering the formation of healthy relationships and the recognition necessary to fulfill his psychological needs. This research provides insights into the importance of family and a supportive social environment in enabling individuals to achieve their desires and motivations, as well as how the inability to meet the hierarchy of needs can significantly impact one's psychological well-being.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">801.9 Psikologi Sastra</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2025-04-17</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS ADAB DAN ILMU BUDAYA</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
