Kosicki. Through a qualitative-constructivist approach, this study examines six key articles to reveal how the media constructs political reality through syntactic, scriptural, thematic, and rhetorical devices. Syntactically, Tempo uses provocative headlines such as “The Blunder of the Super-Sized Cabinet” to highlight the inefficiency of the super-sized cabinet structure, which is viewed as a result of political payback. From a script perspective, the news narrative emphasizes military dominance in civilian affairs and the influence of Joko Widodo, who is perceived as still “meddling” in the government. Thematic analysis reveals policy inconsistencies, particularly in the legal sphere where the President is seen as lacking visionary imagination for proposing amnesty for corrupt officials. Rhetorically, Tempo employs sharp language and metaphors like “The Showcase Order” to satirize the contrast between claims of successful international diplomacy and the reality of environmental degradation and domestic economic stagnation. Overall, Tempo frames the beginning of this administration as a period of image-building or a high-risk “one-man show” because it ignores the people’s fundamental issues, relies on half-baked populist programs, and threatens civilian supremacy. This study concludes that Tempo positions itself as a critical watchdog against militaristic leadership and political pragmatism that could undermine Indonesia’s democratic system.
