This article discusses the legal reasoning of judges at the Yogyakarta Religious Court in deciding cases of compensation due to unlawful acts. The study focuses on the discussion of the Decision of Case Number: 84/Pdt.G/2019/PA.Yk., in which the judge granted the Plaintiff's claim for compensation for the Defendant's unlawful act of closing the BTN Syariah Savings account. In addition to using a juridical-normative approach, the author also conducted a literature study and interviews. As a result, the judges decided the case based on the law, legal doctrine, and facts revealed in court. This decision is in accordance with the principles of legal discovery and Islamic legal principles, especially maqasid asy-syariah and the principle of al-'adalah (justice). Peraturan perundang-undangan terkait penetapan ganti rugi akibat perbuatan melawan hukum sangat terbatas, sehingga dalam prakteknya para hakim di pengadilan agama banyak melakukan ijtihad. Artikel ini mebahas nalar hukum para hakim di Pengadilan Agama Yogyakarta dalam memutus perkara ganti rugi akibat perbuatan melawan hukum. Kajian difokuskan pada pembahasan atas Putusan Perkara Nomor: 84/Pdt.G/2019/PA.Yk., di mana hakim mengabulkan tuntutan ganti rugi Penggugat terhadap perbuatan melawan hukum Tergugat dalam menutup buku Tabungan BTN Syariah. Selain memakai pendekatan yuridisnormatif, Penulis juga melakukan studi kepustakaan dan wawancara. Hasilnya, para hakim memutus perkara berdasarkan pada undang-undang, doktrin hukum, dan fakta-fakta yang terungkap di persidangan.
