      "abstract": "The emotional absence of fathers within the family, commonly referred to as the\r\ninvisible father phenomenon, has a measurable impact on children's psychological\r\ndevelopment, particularly on the formation of self-concept during early childhood. This\r\nphenomenon was observed among families in Teja Timur Village, Pamekasan Regency, where\r\nfathers are physically present yet emotionally unavailable in their children's daily lives due to\r\noccupational pressures, the construction of Madurese masculine identity, and inherited\r\nintergenerational parenting patterns. This study aims to describe the forms of the invisible\r\nfather phenomenon within Madurese families in Teja Timur Village, to identify the contributing\r\nfactors behind the phenomenon, and to analyze its impact across the five dimensions of\r\nchildren's self-concept formation.\r\nThis study adopts a qualitative approach using a phenomenological research design.\r\nData were gathered through in-depth interviews with four fathers and four mothers from\r\nfamilies with young children in Teja Timur Village, supplemented by non-participant\r\nobservation of family interactions. Data validity was established through source triangulation\r\nand technique triangulation. Analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model,\r\ndrawing on Bowlby's Attachment Theory and Cooley's Looking-Glass Self Theory as the\r\nprimary analytical frameworks.\r\nThe findings reveal three key conclusions. First, the invisible father phenomenon in\r\nTeja Timur Village manifests in various forms, including minimal quality communication\r\nbetween fathers and children, fathers' absence from daily caregiving routines, a lack of\r\nemotional affirmation, and fathers' non-involvement in significant moments of children's\r\ngrowth and development. Second, the phenomenon stems from six mutually reinforcing factors:\r\noccupational demands, work schedules misaligned with children's daily routines, patriarchal\r\nMadurese cultural values, intergenerational parenting inheritance, fathers' discomfort with\r\nemotional expression, and an unequal gender role construction. Third, the impact of the\r\ninvisible father phenomenon on children's self-concept is evident across all five dimensions —\r\nphysical, psychological, social, emotional, and academic — with severity directly proportional\r\nto the degree of paternal emotional absence. This study affirms that the quality of a father's\r\nemotional presence is more consequential to children's self-concept development than the\r\nquantity of his physical presence alone.",
