      "abstract": "This study examines the meaning of the sacredness of Bukit Turgo from the\r\nperspective of pilgrims. The research is based on the assumption that Bukit Turgo,\r\nas a religious site, is regarded as sacred by both the local community and pilgrims\r\nand is used as a place to perform ritual practices, gain spiritual experiences, and\r\ncarry out special forms of reverence toward the tomb. This study specifically\r\nexplores the meaning of the sacredness of Bukit Turgo, particularly the tomb of\r\nSyekh Jumadil Kubro, in the social and spiritual lives of pilgrims, as well as how\r\nthe sacredness of Bukit Turgo is constructed by the pilgrims themselves.\r\nThis research employs a religious anthropology approach using the theory of the\r\nsacred and the profane proposed by Mircea Eliade. A qualitative research method\r\nwas applied, and data were collected through observation, interviews, and\r\ndocumentation. The informants consisted of pilgrims, tomb caretakers, and\r\nmembers of the local community surrounding Bukit Turgo. The collected data were\r\nanalyzed descriptively to understand the construction of sacredness and its meaning\r\nfrom the perspective of the pilgrims.\r\nThe findings reveal that pilgrims perceive every action performed during their\r\npilgrimage to Bukit Turgo as a means of drawing closer to the sacred. This\r\nperception is rooted in the belief in the karomah associated with the tomb of Syekh\r\nJumadil Kubro. The sacredness of Bukit Turgo is constructed through various ritual\r\npractices and traditions, such as tahlil, wirid, tirakat, burning incense, and flower\r\nscattering, as well as through pilgrims’ behavior, including maintaining proper\r\netiquette, performing ablution before entering the tomb area, removing footwear,\r\nand walking on their knees when approaching the tomb. The sacredness of Bukit\r\nTurgo is further strengthened by symbols and myths, particularly the belief in the\r\nkaromah of Syekh Jumadil Kubro and the spiritual experiences felt by pilgrims.\r\nFrom the perspective of Mircea Eliade’s theory, the sacredness of Bukit Turgo is\r\nreflected through the elements of Sacred Space, Sacred Time, symbols, rituals, and\r\nreligious experiences that distinguish the sacred realm from the profane realm. This\r\nstudy concludes that the sacredness of Bukit Turgo does not emerge naturally but\r\nis socially constructed through meanings attached to religious experiences, rituals,\r\nsymbols, myths, and ethical conduct maintained by pilgrims. These sacred values\r\nultimately shape Bukit Turgo as a religious space and a center of spiritual\r\norientation for pilgrims.",
