Previous studies on religious moderation in educational settings have tended to focus on curriculum, learning processes, and value internalization, while the dynamics of the relationship between agents, school structures, and the social environment in shaping religious moderation practices at the elementary school level remain insufficiently explored. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the practice of religious moderation at SDN Sokowaten Baru Bantul and to explain how the relationship among the principal, teachers, students, institutional structures, and the surrounding social environment contributes to the formation and reproduction of religious moderation values.
This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. The data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The research informants consisted of the school principal, religious education teachers, students, representatives of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, and members of the surrounding community. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The validity of the data was ensured through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and rechecking the data obtained from interviews, observations, and documentation.
The findings reveal that religious moderation practices at SDN Sokowaten Baru Bantul are manifested through structured school culture, including the five-religion prayer protocol, inclusive social interaction, habituation of tolerance, interfaith activities, teacher role modeling, and the hidden curriculum. These practices are shaped through the dynamic relationship among school agents, institutional structures, and the surrounding social environment. From the perspective of cultural ecology, religious moderation is understood as a form of social adaptation that takes place through the interaction between environment, behavioral patterns, value systems, and the school’s institutional strategies. The findings affirm that elementary schools do not merely function as spaces for knowledge transmission, but also serve as cultural ecosystems that actively shape, habituate, and reproduce inclusive, tolerant, and sustainable religious practices.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">297.28 Hubungan Islam dan Agama Lainnya (Moderasi Beragama)</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-06-25</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS ILMU TARBIYAH DAN KEGURUAN</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mets:xmlData></mets:mdWrap></mets:dmdSec><mets:amdSec ID="TMD_eprint_77778"><mets:rightsMD ID="rights_eprint_77778_mods"><mets:mdWrap MDTYPE="MODS"><mets:xmlData><mods:useAndReproduction>
