N2  - The rapid development of digital technology has significantly
transformed education and requires high school students to possess
essential competencies, including digital literacy and 21st-century
skills such as critical thinking, creativity, communication, and
collaboration. However, the mastery of these competencies remains
uneven among students. This study aims to examine the level of
essential competencies among high school students in the digital era
and formulate appropriate strategies for their development.
The study employed a mixed methods approach, combining
quantitative and qualitative research methods. Quantitative data
were collected through questionnaires distributed to students, while
qualitative data were obtained through interviews, observations,
and document analysis to support and enrich the findings. The data
were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and
qualitative analysis through data reduction, data display, and
conclusion drawing.
The findings indicate that students' essential competencies are
generally at a moderate level, with digital literacy and 21st-century
skills still requiring improvement. The level of competency is
influenced by several factors, including the quality of instruction,
teacher support, access to technology, learning environment, and
students' motivation. Strategies to improve these competencies
include integrating digital technology into learning, implementing
project-based learning, promoting collaborative learning, and
strengthening digital literacy and 21st-century skills critical
thinking, creativity, collaboration, dan communication (4C). The
findings are expected to serve as a reference for schools, teachers,
and policymakers in improving the quality of education in the digital
era.
