husbands and wives live separately due to work, education, or economic factors.
Such circumstances may affect the fulfillment of the rights and obligations of
spouses as regulated under Islamic Family Law. This study aims to analyze the
practice of fulfilling the rights and obligations of spouses who are in a Long
Distance Marriage in Banteran Hamlet, Donoharjo Village, Ngaglik Subdistrict,
Sleman Regency, and to examine it from the perspective of Islamic Family Law
using the Mubadalah Theory. Banteran Hamlet was selected as the research site
because preliminary observations identified couples who were engaged in Long
Distance Marriage with diverse circumstances and patterns of married life.
This research is a field study using a gender-juridical approach with a
descriptive-analytical nature. Data were collected through interviews,
observation, and documentation, and were analyzed qualitatively using an
inductive method. Primary and secondary data were obtained from legislation,
Mubadalah literature, the Compilation of Islamic Law, books, and relevant
academic journals.
The results show that the fulfillment of the rights and obligations of spouses in
Long Distance Marriage has generally been carried out well, particularly in
terms of financial support, communication, and family responsibilities. However,
several challenges remain, including limited face-to-face interaction, the
fulfillment of biological needs, childcare, and communication barriers. From the
perspective of Islamic Family Law, these practices are generally consistent with
Islamic legal provisions as long as both spouses fulfill their respective
responsibilities. Meanwhile, the Mubadalah Theory demonstrates the principle of
reciprocity through cooperation, communication, and mutual trust in maintaining
marital stability.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">297.577 Hukum Keluarga Islam, Bimbingan Pernikahan, Poligami, Perceraian, Iddah, Pengasuhan Anak)</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-08-06</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS SYARI’AH DAN HUKUM</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
