bibo:abstract "New students transitioning to the university environment require adjustments, both academically and socially, making them more susceptible to the tendency of fear of missing out (FoMO) due to the high intensity of social media use. One of the factors suspected to be related to the level of FoMO is the ability of self-regulation. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-regulation and fear of missing out (FoMO) among new students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This study uses a correlational quantitative approach involving 371 new students from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, selected using purposive sampling technique. Data collection was conducted using a self-regulation scale based on aspects from Zimmerman and a fear of missing out (FoMO) scale based on aspects from Przybylski. Data analysis techniques used the Pearson product-moment correlation technique with the help of SPSS for Windows. The research results show a significant negative relationship between self-regulation and fear of missing out (FoMO), evidenced by a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.115 and a significance value of 0.026 (p < 0.05). This indicates that the higher the self-regulation of new students, the lower the tendency to experience FoMO, and vise versa, experienced by new students of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. These results indicate that self-regulation contributes to the reduction of FoMO, but it is not the dominant factor, so other factors such as loneliness, social comparison, and social support also play important roles. This research provides implications for the development of Islamic guidance and counseling services in helping new students manage social media use thru the strengthening of self-regulation based on the values of mujahadah an-nafs and muhasabah."^^xsd:string;
