      "abstract": "This study examines the process of intercultural communication adaptation among\r\nnon-Muslim students within the academic environment of Universitas Islam Negeri\r\nSunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. As an Islamic higher education institution that\r\npromotes religious moderation and inclusivity, the university provides an\r\nintercultural environment where students from diverse religious backgrounds\r\ninteract in both academic and social contexts. Intercultural communication\r\nadaptation is developed between non-Muslim and Muslim students in everyday\r\ncampus interactions. This study employs Interaction Adaptation Theory (IAT),\r\nfocusing on the dimensions of requirements, expectations, and desires. Using a\r\nqualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews\r\nwith five non-Muslim students from different religious and cultural backgrounds,\r\nsupported by triangulation techniques to ensure data credibility. The results show\r\nthat intercultural communication adaptation functions as a strategy to reduce\r\ncultural barriers and strengthen mutual understanding within the academic\r\nenvironment. Both non-Muslim and Muslim students demonstrate accommodative,\r\nrespectful, and tolerant communication patterns in building harmonious\r\nrelationships. Non-Muslim students adapt to the university’s dominant cultural\r\nenvironment, while Muslim students also display openness and flexibility toward\r\nreligious and cultural differences. These reciprocal adaptation practices contribute\r\nto the development of an inclusive and supportive academic atmosphere.",
