and the obligation to maintain their memorization, which can potentially cause stress. However,
on the other hand, some of them are able to experience calmness, concentration, and full
engagement during the memorization process, which are characteristics of the flow state. This
study aims to obtain an understanding of the flow experiences of Qur'an memorizing students.
The study uses a phenomenological qualitative approach to deeply explore the subjective
experiences of the informants. The informants of the study consisted of three Qur'an
memorizing students residing at Pondok Pesantren Al-Muhsin, Bantul, selected using
purposive sampling based on the criteria of having memorized at least 15 juz or having
memorized the Qur'an for a minimum of three years. Data were collected through semistructured
interviews and observations, and then analyzed with reference to the nine aspects of
flow according to Csikszentmihalyi. The results showed that all three informants had
experienced flow, which most easily occurred when the challenge of memorization felt balanced
with their abilities, indicated by the merging of awareness and memorization activity, having
goals, the ability to independently recognize memorization errors, full concentration, loss of
self-awareness of the environment, altered perception of time, and enjoyment derived from the
memorization experience. A good mood, a calm environment, and support from family and the
boarding house environment were the main supporting factors, while college assignments,
fatigue, and technological disruptions were the most frequently encountered obstacles. The
experience of flow was also understood by the three informants as a form of spiritual closeness
to Allah SWT. This study concludes that flow in students who memorize the Qur'an is personal
in form and intensity, but still rooted in religious motivation, which serves as the foundation
for the three informants.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">150 Psikologi</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-08-10</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN HUMANIORA</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
