        abstract = {This research is motivated by the increasing number of elderly people in Indonesia, accompanied by various social, physical, and psychological problems that can impact their independence. This study aims to determine the strategies of social workers in increasing the independence of the elderly through social service programs at the Tresna Werdha Abiyoso Social Service Center in Pakem. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques including interviews, observation, and documentation. The research informants consisted of social workers and elderly people as beneficiaries of social services. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was tested using triangulation. The results indicate that social workers' strategies include providing motivation, psychosocial assistance, familiarization with daily activities, social activities, skills guidance, and emotional support. These strategies are effective in increasing the independence of the elderly in physical, psychological, and social aspects. However, their implementation still faces obstacles such as health conditions, physical limitations, and differences in character and abilities of the elderly.}
