However, the village of Sugihan has demonstrated consistent resilience in preserving the kethingan weton tradition. This study aims to analyze the concept of tradition, uncover the patterns of spiritual and social education within it, and identify the factors contributing to its resilience. The approaches used include Clifford Geertz’s educational anthropology, Ki Hadjar Dewantara’s theory of informal education, John Dewey’s theory of social education, and Roland Barthes’s semiotics (denotation, connotation, myth). The research employs a qualitative method with a case study design. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving elders, religious figures, and community members selected through purposive sampling. Data analysis refers to the Miles and Huberman model (condensation, presentation, and drawing conclusions). The research findings reveal three primary functions. First, the function of spiritual education involves internalizing the values of gratitude, cosmological temporal awareness, purity of intention, perfection of life, spiritual consistency, ecological responsibility, and generosity through rituals repeated every 35 days. Second, the social education function instills mutual cooperation, interpersonal communication, inclusion of the younger generation (warip), solidarity in diversity (kuluban), equality, distributive justice, and collective responsibility. Third, the function of cultural resilience is maintained through the convergence of philosophical roots, Javanese-Islamic acculturation, the transmission of knowledge by traditional and religious leaders, and participatory ritual structures involving children. Challenges include shifts in the values of the younger generation, global hegemony, religious purification, distorted understandings of weton, and declining child participation. These challenges are addressed through strategic adaptation, intergenerational dialogue, and the strengthening of affirmative theological narratives.
