The poem presents  its thought in a deconstructive style, toward the reconstruction of a  more humanist cultural formation capable of restoring women’s  autonomy as human beings.  Two principal findings emerge. First, the oppressive discourse of  the rib within binary opposition is a falsehood concealing a patriarchal  ideology that oppresses women to enforce male domination. That  ideology has shaped a reality in which women have been left behind  and have experienced radical human degradation across millennia.  Second, the radical deconstruction the poem performs operates  through the reversal of the binary opposition of the rib myth as a  strategy for strengthening women’s humanity. The discovery of  ancient matriarchal traces functions as a trace producing différance,  thereby deferring and destabilising fixed meaning. The instability of meaning within the opposition between masculine subjectivity and  feminine objectivity renders the rib myth a constructed rather than a  given truth. That unstable opposition is ultimately dismantled to  establish a new egalitarian relation and to eliminate the centre within  binary structures.  The wider significance of the reading lies in its final refusal. It  would have been simpler for the poem to answer millennia of  subordination with an assertion of feminine supremacy, and the  historical material it invokes would have supported such an assertion.  That it declines to do so, insisting instead that women exist as  themselves and that no pole should occupy the centre, is what  distinguishes deconstruction from inversion. The ethical aim is not to win the opposition but to dissolve it.
