%X This study was to discover the culture of Java-based resilience owned
Merapi cold lava victims, how can survive and improve their quality of life. This
study used the qualitative method with the phenomenological approach, by taking
four subjects who were victims of cold lava of Merapi. Setting data collection in
this research use interviews method. The results showed that among the four
subjects, there are three subjects who have a good resilience. They are BDW,
BYN, and BAT. And the other subject who has less than maximal resilience is
WWN. From interviews on the subjects, appears Javanese cultural values that
influence to subject’s resilience to facing Merapi’s cold lava disaster. These
values include: Gusti mboten sare, urip ming mampir ngombe, urip sak dermo
nglampahi titahing Gusti, meniru sifat padi dan air, kere hore, nrimo, and
patience. How to interpret the value of Java has an influence on the resilience of
the subject. If subjects interpret it in a positive way, it could make the value of
Java as a triggering factor for someone to resilience. And if subjects negatively
interpret it, it can actually make a person can not raise their recilience.
