"The Marriage is Scary phenomenon describes the emergence of concerns, fears, and doubts among young people regarding marriage. This phenomenon does not necessarily indicate a rejection of marriage, but may reflect a changing perspective among the younger generation in viewing marriage as a long-term decision that requires readiness and responsibility. University students, as part of the younger generation, have various considerations before entering married life, including economic and mental readiness, family experiences, partner selection, education, and career. Based on this context, this study examines the perspectives of students in Yogyakarta toward the Marriage is Scary phenomenon and analyzes these perspectives from the perspective of Islamic law based on Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah.\r\nThis research employs a field research method with a descriptive-analytical nature and uses a social-normative approach. The research data were obtained through interviews, observation, and documentation involving eight respondents, consisting of four students from Public Universities and four students from Private Universities in Yogyakarta. Data a nalysis was conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The analytical framework uses the perspective of Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah to connect the social realities reflected in students’ perspectives, experiences, and concerns regarding marriage with the objectives of Islamic law in achieving maṣlaḥah (benefit) and preventing mafsadah (harm). The analysis focuses on the five fundamental objectives of Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah, namely ḥifẓ al-dīn, ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-‘aql, ḥifẓ al-nasl, and ḥifẓ al-māl.\r\nThe results show that students from Public and Private Universities in Yogyakarta generally do not reject marriage, but have various concerns regarding the consequences of married life. These concerns include economic readiness, mental readiness, marital responsibilities, the possibility of conflict and divorce, family experiences, partner selection, and the continuation of education and career. Differences in perspectives are influenced more by the respondents’ individual experiences and circumstances than by their university status. From the perspective of Maqāṣid al-Syarī‘ah, these concerns are related to efforts to preserve religion, life, intellect, progeny, and wealth. Therefore, the Marriage is Scary phenomenon in this study is more appropriately understood as a form of caution and reflection among students regarding marital readiness.
