On one hand, the classical fiqh perspective represented by Sheik Nawawi al-Bantani places the obligation of maintenance as the primary responsibility of the husband based on the normative construction of the Shafi'i school. On the other hand, M. Quraish Shihab offers a more contextual approach thru the interpretation of the Qur'an while still maintaining the principle of the husband's responsibility, whereas Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir develops the mub{\=a}dalah paradigm that emphasizes partnership relations and reciprocal responsibilities between husband and wife. These differences in paradigms indicate an epistemological transformation in understanding the obligation of maintenance, which has not yet been extensively studied comparatively from the perspectives of sources of knowledge, methods of istinb{\=a}{\d t}, and the thinking paradigms of each figure. Starting from that problem, this research aims to analyze the epistemological construction of the concept of maintenance obligation according to Syekh Nawawi al-Bantani, M. Quraish Shihab, and Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir, explain the paradigm transformations that occur among the three, and examine its relevance in addressing the dynamics of contemporary Muslim families. This research is a library study with a qualitative approach and a comparative-analytical method. Data were obtained from the main works of the three figures, which were analyzed using Karl Mannheim's Sociology of Knowledge theory to explain the relationship between thot and the socio-historical context, as well as the maq{\=a}{\d s}id al-syar{\=i}'ah perspective to evaluate the relevance of the maintenance obligation paradigm. The research results show that the epistemological constructions of the three figures are shaped by different sources of knowledge, istinb{\=a}{\d t} methods, and social contexts. Sheik Nawawi al-Bantani represents the normative-hierarchical paradigm that places maintenance as the primary obligation of the husband. M. Quraish Shihab develops the contextual-adaptive paradigm that emphasizes flexibility according to family conditions, while Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir offers the mubadalah paradigm that emphasizes partnership and justice in the husband-wife relationship. These differences indicate a transformation in the paradigm of maintenance obligations as a response to social changes without abandoning the fundamental principles of Sharia. This research contributes to the expansion of Islamic family law studies thru a conceptual model of the transformation of the paradigm of maintenance obligations that is more contextual and relevant for contemporary Muslim families.} }
