This tradition is significant because, under Islamic law, the dowry is an obligation of the prospective husband and a right of the prospective wife. However, in the practice of Ampa Co?i Ndai, the woman or her family may provide financial assistance to the prospective husband to fulfill the dowry requirement. This study aims to analyze the process of women providing dowry to men in the Ampa Co?i Ndai tradition, the factors underlying the practice, and the interaction between customary law, Islamic law, and the social practices of the Mbojo community. The study employs Pierre Bourdieu?s theory of practice, particularly the concepts of habitus, capital, and field, as well as the theory of ?urf to examine the position of this practice from the perspective of Islamic law. This research is an empirical legal study using sociological and ethnographic approaches. The research was conducted in Dompu Regency using primary and secondary data. Primary data were obtained through interviews with prospective spouses, family members, customary leaders, and religious leaders who were knowledgeable about or involved in the Ampa Co?i Ndai practice. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation from January to March 2026. The data were analyzed qualitatively through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The empirical findings were analyzed using Pierre Bourdieu?s concepts of habitus, capital, and field, followed by an analysis based on the theory of ?urf to assess the compatibility of the Ampa Co?i Ndai practice with Islamic legal principles. The findings show that the Ampa Co?i Ndai practice is shaped by the interaction of economic conditions, social structures, cultural values, and religious understanding within the community. Economic factors constitute the most dominant factor, particularly when the prospective husband is unable to fulfill the agreed dowry requirement. Financial assistance from the woman?s family is provided through communication and negotiation involving the prospective spouses, families, customary leaders, and religious leaders to ensure that the marriage can proceed. Although the dowry is factually financed by the woman?s side, it is still declared in the marriage contract as a gift from the man to the woman. From Bourdieu?s perspective, this practice reflects the influence of habitus and the distribution of economic, social, cultural, and symbolic capital within the field of marriage. From the perspective of ?urf, the Ampa Co?i Ndai practice can be regarded as ?urf sahih as long as it does not undermine the woman?s right to the dowry and does not contradict Islamic legal principles. The practice therefore demonstrates a negotiation between customary norms, economic capacity, and Islamic legal provisions in the marriage practices of the Mbojo community in Dompu Regency.} }
