Luffy in the anime One Piece from the perspectives of Jean-Paul Sartre’s existentialism and Muhammad Iqbal’s philosophy of khudi. This study aims to analyze the representation of Luffy’s concept of freedom as well as the similarities and differences between the two perspectives in understanding it. This study employs library research with a qualitative-philosophical approach and a comparative method. The research data consist of dialogues, actions, decisions, and events in the anime One Piece that represent Luffy’s freedom. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data classification, philosophical analysis, and comparative synthesis. The results show that Luffy’s freedom is represented through his ability to determine and pursue the direction of his life through choices and actions, maintain his choices when facing pressure, power, judgment, and consequences, and develop himself in facing various circumstances. From Sartre’s perspective, Luffy’s freedom is manifested in his ability to define himself through choices and actions and to respond to the circumstances he encounters. Meanwhile, from the perspective of Iqbal’s khudi, Luffy’s freedom is understood through will, independence, active action, and struggle as processes of strengthening and developing the self. Comparatively, both perspectives view Luffy as an active subject who determines his will, responds to circumstances through action, and allows other individuals the space to exercise their own freedom, while differing in their emphasis on the meaning of freedom. Sartre emphasizes self-determination through choice and action, whereas Iqbal emphasizes the strengthening and development of the self through will, independence, action, and struggle.
