This topic is important to study because its understanding relates not only to an attitude of surrender, but also to how a sālik (spiritual seeker) navigates their spiritual journey. In this regard, Manāzil al-Sā’irīn by al-Harawī serves as an essential work discussing tawakkul as a part of the maqāmāt (spiritual stations). This research specifically examines the concept of tawakkul within the text by observing the development of its understanding among classical Sufis prior to al-Harawī, as well as examining the position and characteristics of tawakkul within the structure of maqāmāt. Based on this context, the study aims to answer two primary research questions: how classical Sufis prior to al-Harawī conceptualized tawakkul, and how al-Harawī conceptualizes tawakkul in Manāzil al-Sā’irīn. This research is a library research project using a descriptive-qualitative approach. The primary source of the research is Manāzil al-Sā’irīn, while secondary sources include books of commentary (sharh), Sufi literature, academic articles, and previous research related to tawakkul and al-Harawī’s thought. The data were analyzed by reading, explaining, and interpreting the concept of tawakkul alongside its position within the structure of maqāmāt. The findings of the research demonstrate two main points. First, discussions on tawakkul prior to al-Harawī show several interrelated emphases, such as asceticism (zuhd) and the cultivation of the inner state toward a more focused understanding of the relationship between human effort and reliance on Allah. Second, in Manāzil al-Sā’irīn, al-Harawī positions tawakkul as the 27th maqām in the spiritual journey of a sālik. According to al-Harawī, tawakkul does not mean abandoning effort, but rather altering one’s inner relationship with cause and effect. This is evident in the three levels of tawakkul that illustrate the deepening attitude of a servant: ranging from utilizing causes while remaining reliant on Allah, reducing the heart’s dependence on secondary causes, to a deeper surrender to Allah as the Owner and Controller of all affairs. Thus, the distinctiveness of al-Harawī’s discussion lies in structuring tawakkul as a multi-tiered progression within the spiritual journey, ensuring it is understood not merely as trust or surrender, but as an ongoing process of relinquishing the heart's dependence on anything other than Allah. date: 2026-08-19 type: Thesis type: NonPeerReviewed format: text language: id identifier: https://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/79076/1/22105010085_BAB-I_IV-atau-V_DAFTAR-PUSTAKA.pdf format: text language: id identifier: https://digilib.uin-suka.ac.id/id/eprint/79076/2/22105010085_BAB-II_sampai_SEBELUM-BAB-TERAKHIR.pdf identifier: Mulihah Mutiara Tsani, NIM.: 22105010085 (2026) KONSEP TAWAKAL DALAM KITAB MANAZIL AL-SA'IRIN KARYA 'ABDULLAH AL-ANSARI AL-HARAWI.
