These practices are generally directed toward spiritual reinforcement, strengthening belief in the facilitation of sustenance (rizq), and enhancing students? learning motivation. However, the practice developed at the Lingkar Studi Qur?an (LSQ) Ar-Rohmah Islamic Boarding School in Banguntapan, Bantul, Yogyakarta, exhibits distinctive characteristics. In this institution, the recitation of Surah al-W?qi?ah is not merely understood within the pragmatic framework of the virtues of deeds (fa???il al-a?m?l), but rather as an integral part of the Living Qur?an paradigm, namely an effort to actualize the Qur?an as a set of values internalized in the daily lives of the students (santri). Conceptually, Surah al-W?qi?ah contains eschatological messages concerning the certainty of the Hereafter, the classification of human beings based on their deeds, and the relativity of worldly wealth. Therefore, its recitation within the LSQ Ar-Rohmah environment is interpreted as a means of cultivating eschatological awareness and disciplining the self (riy??ah al-nafs), oriented toward the formation of scholarly ethics and the spiritual development of the santri. This study aims to examine both the practice and the meanings attributed to the recitation of Surah al-W?qi?ah at LSQ Ar-Rohmah Islamic Boarding School. It employs a field research design with an exploratory descriptive-qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and subsequently analyzed to uncover the layers of meaning embedded in the practice. The analysis is grounded in the theory of Qur?anic reception proposed by Ahmad Rofiq, which encompasses exegetical, aesthetic, and functional receptions. The research findings indicate that the recitation of surah al-Waqi?ah at LSQ Ar-Rohmah is not interpreted as a magical-instrumental practice promising instant material gain, but rather as a spiritual pedagogical strategy that emphasizes the internalization of Qur?anic values in the lives of the students. This practice serves as a medium for fostering religious awareness, strengthening the ethos of learning, and establishing collective habits that shape the students? religious identity. Furthermore, the continuity of this tradition is supported by a process of social diffusion involving the scholarly expertise of the boarding school?s supervisors, communication within the teacher-student relationship, sustained habit formation, and the boarding school?s social system, which enables the tradition to be accepted and passed down. Thus, the tradition of reciting surah al-Waqi?ah at LSQ Ar-Rohmah not only represents an expression of religiosity but also serves as a cultural mechanism for transmitting values, shaping character, and ensuring the continuity of pesantren traditions.
