MUHAMMAD THOLCHAH AL FAYYADL Muhammad Nur Ihsan, NIM.: 22105030051 297.1226 Tafsir Al-Qur'an, Ilmu Tafsir This study examines the book Ar-Risālah Al-Mūjizah Fī Tafsīr Sūrat Al-Wāqi’ah by KH. Muhammad Tholchah Al-Fayyadl, a work of contemporary pesantren exegesis that reflects the dynamics of Islamic scholarship in Indonesia. This work is noteworthy because it is written entirely in Arabic and blends classical scholarly traditions with modern writing conventions. The primary objective of this study is to analyze the methods, sources, and interpretive approaches employed, as well as to map the book’s position within the framework of intellectual traditions and the body of pesantren exegesis. This research is a qualitative study based on library research. Primary data collection was conducted through text documentation of the book and supported by direct interviews with the author. The collected data was then processed using a descriptive-analytical method with a historical approach and content analysis to reveal the epistemological structure and the transmission of knowledge behind it. The results of the study indicate that, methodologically, this book employs the tahlili method with a structured presentation format based on the order of the mushaf. Interpretations are formulated through an analysis of linguistic aspects and then developed by referring to relevant verses of the Qur’an, the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad, the narrations of the Companions and the Tabi’in, as well as the opinions of earlier exegetes drawn from interdisciplinary classical Islamic literature, with the scope of ijtihad carefully limited. The most dominant approach to exegesis is the linguistic (lughawi) approach, as evidenced by an in-depth analysis of vocabulary, grammar (nahwu), morphology (sharaf), i’rab (syntactic case), and variations in qira’at for each verse. Within the context of the pesantren tradition, the book Ar-Risalah occupies a strategic position as a preserver of the kitab kuning tradition and bandongan teaching methods, which have evolved by adopting modern academic systematization standards, such as the use of footnotes.
