AL-FATIHAH Akhmad Sahal, NIM.: 22105030055 297.1226 Tafsir Al-Qur'an, Ilmu Tafsir Al-Farrāʾ (207 H) and al-Akhfash al-Awsaṭ (215 H) both produced works entitled Maʿānī al-Qurʾān, belonging to the genre of tafsīr lughawī and emerging within the formative context of the development of the Arabic language and nahw. These similarities give the two works a number of closely related characteristics; however, they do not exhibit a uniform pattern in their selection of Qur’anic verses and linguistic issues for discussion. This difference in the selection of verses and linguistic issues indicates the presence of distinct patterns of selectivity in each work. This study aims to examine the patterns of selectivity employed by both authors in their discussions of Sūrat al-Fātiḥah. Using a qualitative library research method with a comparative-analytical approach, this study analyzes the topics, linguistic issues, and grammatical concerns selected by each author. The findings reveal that al-Farrā’ and al-Akhfash exhibit distinct patterns of selectivity. Al-Farrā’ tends to utilize Qur’anic verses as a basis for formulating grammatical principles and demonstrates a stronger inclination toward the Kūfan grammatical tradition. In contrast, al-Akhfash primarily employs verses as objects of grammatical analysis and tends to accommodate differing views from both the Baṣran and Kūfan schools.
