This tradition is not only a celebration of completing the recitation of the Qur?an but also embodies religious, social, and cultural values that have been transmitted across generations. One distinctive feature of this tradition is the recitation of Surah al-An??m verse 115 at the end of the Batamat ceremony. However, the significance of this verse has received little scholarly attention from the perspective of Living Qur?an studies, while social change and modernization have also influenced the implementation of the tradition. Therefore, this study aims to describe the implementation of the Batamat al-Qur?an tradition among the Banjar community and to analyze the community?s reception of Surah al-An??m verse 115 within this tradition. This study employed a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method over a four-month period. The research was conducted at TKA?TPA?TQA BKPRMI Unit 001 Iqra Mahligai Alquran, Banjarmasin. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were analyzed using the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The analysis was based on Reception Theory and Ahmad Rafiq?s Living Qur?an approach. The findings reveal that the Batamat al-Qur?an tradition is performed as an expression of gratitude for completing the recitation of the Qur?an, particularly by children, as well as during certain religious occasions and before marriage ceremonies. The ritual begins with the recitation of the short chapters from Surah al-?u?? to Surah al-N?s in the canonical order (tart?b al-mu??af), with takb?r, tahl?l, and ta?m?d recited after each chapter. It continues with the recitation of Surah al-F?ti?ah, Surah al-Baqarah verses 1?7, and concludes with Surah al-An??m verse 115. The study further finds that the Banjar community?s reception of Surah al-An??m verse 115 represents a functional-performative reception within the framework of Living Qur?an studies. The selection of this verse is based not primarily on its textual interpretation but on the practice of tafa?ul, through the phonetic resemblance between the word tammat and the term Batamat, both of which signify completion. Furthermore, the community engages in dual appropriation by integrating Qur?anic values with Banjar cultural symbols, such as payung kambang, lakatan, and hinti. Consequently, Surah al-An??m verse 115 functions not only as a sacred text but also as a medium for strengthening Islamic identity, preserving local culture, and internalizing Qur?anic values within the Banjar community.
