      "abstract": "This study aims to evaluate the implementation of Javanese culture in the visual\r\ndesign of the public library building of the Library and Archives Service of the\r\nSpecial Region of Yogyakarta (DPAD DIY), and to examine the extent to which this\r\nimplementation aligns with the principles of neo-vernacular architecture. Using a\r\ndescriptive qualitative research method with data collection techniques including\r\nobservation, interviews, and documentation, the findings reveal that Javanese\r\nculture is manifested through symbolic and visual elements integrated into the\r\nbuilding’s architecture. The design of Grhatama Pustaka is inspired by the\r\nphilosophy of the Bedhaya Harjuna Wijaya dance and the mancapat concept,\r\nexpressed in four minarets symbolizing four noble Javanese values: Prakasa\r\n(resilience), Wulung (learning), Agung (dignity), and Wewangian (beneficence).\r\nAdditionally, bronze pillars are adorned with Javanese script (aksara Jawa),\r\ntraditional proverbs (sanepo), and distinctive Yogyakarta batik motifs such as\r\nkawung and truntum, serving not only as aesthetic features but also as cultural\r\neducation media. The building’s facade, natural lighting, and use of local materials\r\nfurther strengthen local identity and user comfort. Analysis shows that the design\r\naligns well with the principles of neo-vernacular architecture, particularly in terms\r\nof contextualism, symbolism, reinterpretation of traditional forms, and community\r\ninvolvement. Thus, the library successfully functions as a public space that is not\r\nonly practical but also serves as a platform for cultural preservation and local\r\nidentity in the modern era.",
