      "abstract": "This study investigates the use of deixis in the Instagram posts of Motaz Azaiza, a\r\nPalestinian photojournalist whose work gained global attention during the Gaza\r\nconflict in October–November 2023. The research focuses on identifying the types\r\nof deixis present and analyzing their referential meanings. Employing Levinson’s\r\n(1983) deixis typology and a descriptive qualitative method, the researcher\r\nanalyzed 30 posts consisting of captions and accompanying visuals. The findings\r\nreveal that four types of deixis—person, temporal, spatial, and discourse deixis—\r\nwere found in the data. Person deixis was the most frequent, reflecting how Motaz\r\npositioned himself both as an individual eyewitness and as part of a collective\r\nidentity, often referring to Palestinian civilians through “we” and “they.” Temporal\r\ndeixis situated events in time, while spatial deixis grounded the narrative in specific\r\nlocations in Gaza. Discourse deixis guided readers through the flow of the narrative\r\nacross captions and posts. Social deixis was absent, which aligns with the informal,\r\nemotionally direct style of communication used by the author.",
