The research focuses on identifying the types of deixis present and analyzing their referential meanings. Employing Levinson’s (1983) deixis typology and a descriptive qualitative method, the researcher analyzed 30 posts consisting of captions and accompanying visuals. The findings reveal that four types of deixis—person, temporal, spatial, and discourse deixis— were found in the data. Person deixis was the most frequent, reflecting how Motaz positioned himself both as an individual eyewitness and as part of a collective identity, often referring to Palestinian civilians through “we” and “they.” Temporal deixis situated events in time, while spatial deixis grounded the narrative in specific locations in Gaza. Discourse deixis guided readers through the flow of the narrative across captions and posts.
