Body dissatisfaction refers to negative evaluations of one’s body resulting from a discrepancy between perceived actual body conditions and the ideal body image desired by the individual. This study aimed to examine the relationship between body dissatisfaction and smoking behavior among university students residing in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. This study employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. A total of 210 university students residing in the Special Region of Yogyakarta were recruited using an purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) and the Glover-Nilsson Smoking Behavioral Questionnaire (GN-SBQ), both of which had been translated into Indonesian. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results indicated a significant relationship between body dissatisfaction and smoking behavior (R = 0.241, p < 0.001). The coefficient of determination (R² = 0.0581) showed that body dissatisfaction accounted for 5.81% of the variance in smoking behavior among university students. The findings supported the research hypothesis. In practical terms, the findings of this study can enhance understanding of the relationship between body dissatisfaction and smoking behavior, as well as support the development of health initiatives and further research.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">155.6 Psikologi Dewasa</mods:classification><mods:classification authority="lcc">370.15 Psikologi Pendidikan</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-07-24</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN HUMANIORA</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
