"A study on paraquat dichloride ion adsorption using silica gel adsorbent\r\nsynthesized from bagasse ash by sol-gel method. The purpose of this research is\r\nstudying the synthesis, characterization of silica gel and silica gel adsorption capacity\r\nfor paraquat dichloride.\r\nSynthesis is done by incineration bagasse at temperatures of 700 °C for 4\r\nhours. Bagasse ash was dissolved with sodium hydroxide at 100 °C for 30 minutes to\r\nproduce sodium silicate. Gel formation through the addition of hydrochloric acid with\r\na concentration of 6 M. Gel formed is washed with distilled water until a neutral\r\nfiltrate from washing and dried at 50 oC for 18 hours. Characterization of silica gel\r\nmade by Fourier trasform infra red (FT-IR) and gas sorption analyzer (GSA). The\r\nadsorption capacity of the adsorbent studied through interaction with paraquat\r\ndichloride.\r\nSilica gel is synthesized has the following characteristics: The FT-IR results\r\nshowed that the silica gel has silanol groups and siloxane. The surface area, pore\r\nvolume and pore diameter of silica gel synthesized row is 43,442 m2/g, 0,151 cc/g\r\nand 15,233 Å. Silica gel produced has the micropore pore size distribution,\r\nmesoporous, and macropore with the dominant faction in the mesoporous region.\r\nBased on linear regression coefficient (R2) of silica gel adsorption of paraquat by\r\nfollowing the two-quasi-order model with a value of R2 = 0,970 and the adsorption\r\nisotherm follows Freundlich models with a value of R2 = 0,935.
