%X This study examines the kinesic communication of Ustadz Abdul Somad on the
YouTube channel Ustadz Abdul Somad Official. The background of this study is
grounded in the importance of nonverbal communication in supporting the
effectiveness of da’wah (Islamic preaching) message delivery on audiovisual
media, where the audience does not only receive the message through verbal speech,
but also through facial expressions, hand gestures, eye contact, and other forms of
body language. The research question is how the kinesics displayed by Ustadz
Abdul Somad on the YouTube channel Ustadz Abdul Somad Official. This study
aims to identify the kinesic movements displayed by Ustadz Abdul Somad while
delivering da’wah messages. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach
with data sourced from two sermon videos, namely “Kita Kembali Ke Tanah Maka
Janganlah Sombong” and “Hijrah Menuju Pribadi Yang Lebih Baik dengan Iman,
Ilmu dan Amal.” Data were collected through media observation and
documentation, then analyzed using the classification of nonverbal behavior (The
Repertoire of Nonverbal Behavior) developed by Paul Ekman and Wallace V.
Friesen, namely emblems, illustrators, affect displays, regulators, and adaptors. The
results show that Ustadz Abdul Somad displays all five categories of kinesics with
different forms and functions, namely as emphasis, illustration, emotional
expression, interaction regulation, and self-adaptation. This kinesic communication
functions to reinforce verbal messages and enhance the effectiveness of da’wah
message delivery on YouTube media.
