technologies such as NVDA, JAWS, and TalkBack have become essential tools for
visually impaired students to support academic activities and enhance digital
literacy amid skill gaps caused by individual and environmental factors. Through
descriptive qualitative research using a phenomenological approach collecting
data via observation, in-depth interviews with six visually impaired students, and
documentation, validated through method triangulation the study reveals that
students generally possess good digital literacy skills in accessing academic
services, searching, selecting, evaluating, and verifying scientific information, and
even utilizing artificial intelligence for preliminary information retrieval. This
capability is supported by the inclusive services of the Disability Service Center at
UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, technology training, support from family, peers,
lecturers, the disability community, and personal motivation, despite facing
obstacles such as the limited accessibility of certain websites/applications, internet
connection issues, and the adaptation process for those who lost their sight in
adulthood. Examined through Anthony Giddens' structuration theory, this digital
literacy proficiency is formed through a reciprocal relationship between individual
capacity as an agent and institutional support as a structure.</mods:abstract><mods:classification authority="lcc">362.4 Permasalahan dan Layanan kepada Penyandang Cacat, Disabilitas</mods:classification><mods:originInfo><mods:dateIssued encoding="iso8061">2026-08-26</mods:dateIssued></mods:originInfo><mods:originInfo><mods:publisher>UIN SUNAN KALIJAGA YOGYAKARTA;FAKULTAS ILMU SOSIAL DAN HUMANIORA</mods:publisher></mods:originInfo><mods:genre>Thesis</mods:genre></mods:mods>
