In carrying out this role, hope serves as an important factor that helps caregivers endure the various challenges associated with caregiving. This study aimed to explore the meaning of hope among informal caregivers caring for individuals with mental health disorders. A qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological method was employed. The participants consisted of three informal caregivers selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and observations and were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. The findings revealed that hope was perceived as the desire for the care recipient to achieve independence and attain a good quality of life when the caregiver is no longer able to provide support. These findings have practical implications for providing support to informal caregivers and families of individuals with mental health disorders.
