abstract: The central theme of this study will eventually
bring up at a question: Is there a
standard system of government in Islam?
This question is avery strategic one,
because a thorough examination has to
be done to find the suitable answer for
the question. Such examination should
be conducted not only to the Islamic
teaching but also from the Prophet's traditions,
which are then preserved by alkhulafah
al-rasyidun. Actually, there is
no qat'i verses in the holy Qur'an as well
as in the Sunnah concerning. Government
system and the way of forming a
state in Islam. Yet, a number of principles
of government are covered by the
two sources. While empirically, related
to Islamic politics and government,
there is no common similar pattern in
what has been practiced by al-khulafah
al-rasyidun, Bani Umaiyah, and Bani
Abbasiyah that can be referred to as the
standard system of government in Islam.
