%X Islamic law sociologically and culturally attached  and inherent to Indonesian society,  therefore Islamic law in Indonesia is regarded  as the living law among society. In its history,  Islamic law in Indonesia is dialectic continuously  according to legal politic policy of the  ruling government. This article is intended to  describe and analyze development of Islamic  law in Indonesia and its relation to social and  political configuration. By using legal sociological  approach, this article concluded that  in the history of Indonesia, social configuration  formed political configuration in parliament,  then its political configuration influenced  the character of laws produced. In the  other word, legal reform, especially Islamic law  in Indonesia was much influenced by its social  and politic configuration. However, Islamic  legal reform through structural approach,  that is formalizing Islamic law as positive  law, in fact reduced Islamic values. Therefore,  cultural approach to socializing Islamic  law among Indonesian society is better option  that must be done, replacing structural approach  which is stiff and static.
