According to Sardar, Islam pays a great deal of attention to this issue. Starting from the assumption that western science and technology were regarded as a source for crisis in ecology in the world, he formulated an islamic paradigm of environment which is based on the fundamental concept of tawhid. This concept was believed as an axis on which all activities must rotate. From Tawhid, emerge such concepts as khilaf?h and am?nah, on which all of environmental ethics was built: human is not haphazardly free from God, but must be responsible for his scientific activites. The earth with its contents are a trust from God which must be preserved. In establishing an Islamic paradigm of environment, Sardar comes up with matrix --tawh?d, khilaf?h, am?nah, hal?l, har?m, ?adl, i?tid?l, istisl?h and istihs?n. If this framework is to be comprehensively operationalised in Muslim community (ummah), it will revolutionize their attitudes, behaviour, and ways of thinking.
