abstract: This article tries to analyze the discourse and movement of Islamic reforms of
Nahdlatul Ulama/NU's youths in Indonesia. There are some matters investigated in
this article, i.e.; their criticism on ahlussunnah waljama’ah doctrine, the emergence
of a new methodology of Islamic study discourses, and model of Islamic thought
growing in the NU's youths. They develop a model of Islamic liberal thought. This
type of thought attempts to integrate Islamic thought of contemporary Arab and
western philosophy methods. Accordingly, in the discourse of NU's youths the
thought is not known a specific madzhab trend, it is known that the way of thinking
developed by this genre is patterned as talfiq. The use of this method has an
implication not to apply all of the standard fatwas on the classical fiqh books,
because of its consideration on socio-cultural changes.
