"Conceptually Islamic education aims at forming moslem personality whose\r\nprophetic consciousness. They have to have high commitment to cope with empirical\r\nproblems around him. Unfortunately, many outputs of this institution are incapable\r\nto contribute to solve the problems, even some of them are part of the problems, such\r\nindicators as the emergence of truth claim phenomena and communal conflict. Ought\r\nto is Islamic education the agent of social transformation leding to khayr ummah and\r\nrahmatan lil-‘alamin, but in reality even many social unrests occurred in the\r\nenclaves of moslem society. Ironically, it happened in moslem ummah itself\r\ninternally. Though the problems are not caused by Islamic education itself in\r\npractice indirectly, but at least the process of education has many roles to form\r\ncommunity’s mindset. Based on this consideration, this article tries to discuss\r\nIslamic education dealt with the paradigm of critrical pedagogy offered by Henry\r\nGiroux and Paulo Freire. It is focused on the meaning of critical pedagogy,\r\nprophetic Islamic education, and towards critical Islamic education.
