RACHMAN ASSEGAF , - Y1 - 2003/08/01/ N2 - IVe all hope that Competency Based Curriculum or KBK which will be enacted this year could provide its outcomes with potential character, capacity, competency, skill and widest knowledge in making reciprocal interaction between himself and their social milieu, culture and their environment to develop further their ability, both in employment or higher education. Consequently, KBK will make new orientatioh on lecturing process in the Faculty of Tarbiyah. It will not only encourage students to reach the highest mark, and lecturer to finish the curriculum target, but also empower the process and product of lecturing by competency mainset. So, KBK is to bring a new direction to the curriculum in the Faculty of Tarbiyah, State Institute for Islamic Studies Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. However, what we said normatively positive on KBK as an alternative solution to handle the weakness of conventional curriculum, KBK itself does not automatically make the same effect between institutions and subject matters. Notes on KBK must be regarded as a challenge to improve our curriculum. This paper tries to elaborate the apportunities and challenges faced by the Faculty of Tarbiyah in handling the implementation of KBK 2004.
