While the theory ofcreationpromotes that God created human species, the theory of evolutionpromotes that human species are the result ofnaturallyprocesses of evolution. In the case ofIslam, the Qur 'an apparently describes a contradictory description on it. Some verses simply describe the idea ofdirect creation whereas others describe the idea ofindirect (continuing) creation. The description has caused discord among the Muslim scholars. This researchfocuses on how teachers ofsenior high schools in Banyumas Regency understand the origin ofman. By applying questioner and interview methods, itfound that they mostly hold literalisticpoint qfview with its notion ofdirect creation but they did not reject the validity ofthe theory ofevolution. The statistical analyses found that there was no significant correlation between the understanding ofthe Qur 'anic concept ofcreation and the perception the theory ofevolution. Respondents simply regard the Qur 'anic description as religious value that its essential improvingfaith and it has nothing to do with the validity ofevolutionary theory.
