abstract: This research aims to comprehend the social construction develop and
build by magazine of Moslem women Ummi towards gender stereotype passing
depiction of various image under consideration as the core important.
Ummi Magazine was selected based on the reason of the role of woman in
managing the magazine. This can eliminate the gender bias and lift the degree
of woman position appropriately.
This research uses the framework of opinion of social constructionism
which introduced by Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckman, assuming that
reality attended by a media is not a reality in fact but illusion reality formed by
throughout history process, social strength, political, economic, social and
cultural influences.
By combined analyses, the framing model of Robert M. Entman and framework
analyse of the discourse of Sara Mills which obtained by result that magazine
of woman Ummi not yet full free from the gender stereotype in depicting
woman in discussion of important issues. The above mentioned will be seen
from a way of telling a story which have not yet happened in the woman perspective.
Despite, this magazine still positioning woman as an object which
tends to subordinate to men. Nature of subordination was look from the weakness
of woman depiction, emotional, and don't dare to make an important
decision.
