Abstract

This study aims to determine whether there is gender equality in literacy promotion at Office of Archives and Regional Library of Yogyakarta and how forms of the gender equality. The method in this research using descriptive qualitative. Techniques of data collection using the documentation, observation, and interviews. The study concluded that gender equality in literacy promotion at Office of Archives and Regional Library of Yogyakarta can be categorized to five types, that is access, participation, control, equality and the freedom to act. Literacy promotion activities referred to “English Speaking Club”, “Berhari Minggu di PerpusKota: Sanggar Kreasi Gerabah”, “Sunday Science: Sanggar Menulis Komik”, “Liburan di PerpusKota 2011”, “Lomba Bercerita Siswa”, “Lomba Ibu Membaca Cerita 2011”, “Sarasehan Pemberdayaan Perempuan: Memupuk Budaya Baca Sejak Dini”, and “Sanggar Menulis Cahaya”. Generally it was found that five of these categories showed a high level of gender equality in literacy promotion activities at Office of Archives and Regional Library of Yogyakarta, it is based of the eight promotional activity is just founded three activities containing gender inequality or inequity, that is “Lomba Bercerita Siswa”, “Lomba Ibu Bercerita”, and “Sarasehan Pemberdayaan Perempuan: Memupuk Budaya Baca Sejak Dini”.
